Poverty Reduction Progamme
What is the programme about?
The Poverty Reduction Programme is coordinated and implemented by the Programme Management Unit in the Ministry of the People and Social Development. The programme supports the formulation of a National Poverty Reduction Strategy that is more responsive to the needs of the most vulnerable groups in society and serves as a forerunner to the implementation of a decentralized system for the delivery of social services to communities.
What does this programme aim to achieve?
This programmes aims to:
- Improve the delivery of poverty reduction services by the decentralization of poverty interventions through the establishment of Regional Social and Human Development Councils (RSHDCs);
- Strengthen the institutional framework for poverty reduction through the establishment of the Network of Civil Society Organisations; and
- Strengthen the information base on poverty and poverty reduction programmes through Surveys and Poverty Profiles.
Who is targeted?
Persons who are unemployed, women, youths, single mothers and voluntary community based organizations.
